Fungal biotechnology for textile circularity and environmental restoration.
FungiBio™ Technologies Inc. is developing a biological conversion platform that uses selected fungi and their natural enzymatic system to transform end-of-life textiles into potentially valuable environmental products.
Our technology is designed to selectively convert cellulose-rich natural fibers such as cotton while preserving synthetic fibers such as polyester for potential recovery and recycling.
The result is a new approach to textile circularity: rather than treating an entire blended garment as waste, FungiBio™seeks to create value from both its natural and synthetic components.
One Platform. Two Environmental Challenges.
The textile industry faces a fundamental problem: many end-of-life garments contain mixtures of natural and synthetic fibers that are difficult to separate and recycle economically.
At the same time, industries across North America need more sustainable technologies to restore contaminated soil and water.
FungiBio™ is bringing these challenges together.

NATURAL FIBER FRACTION
Cotton and other cellulose-rich fibers are targeted for fungal conversion.
Potential outputs:
Enzyme-rich biomass — Remediation substrates — Mycelium materials — Soil products — Engineered biochar
SYNTHETIC FIBER FRACTION
Polyester and other non-cellulosic materials may remain available for separation, characterization, and recycling or reuse.
Biological Fiber Separation
Blended textiles are among the most difficult materials to recycle because natural and synthetic fibers are physically intertwined.
FungiBio™ is developing a fundamentally different approach.
Selected fungi colonize the textile substrate and produce extracellular enzymes capable of breaking down cellulose. This creates the potential to selectively convert the cotton fraction of cotton/polyester textiles while preserving polyester for subsequent recovery.
Instead of attempting to recycle the entire garment through one pathway, FungiBio™ seeks to create two circular material streams from one textile waste stream.
From Textile Waste to Environmental Products
The FungiBio™platform is being developed around multiple potential value streams.
Remediation Substrate
Biological active fungal material designed for evaluation in contaminated soil and water treatment.
Enzyme-Rich Biomass
Fungal biomass and enzyme systems generated during textile conversion with potential environmental and industrial.
Mycelium Materials
Fungal-textile materials with potential applications in filtration, composites and other biomaterials.
Engineered biochar
Carbon-rich material produced through controlled pyrolysis of suitable residual fungal/textile biomass.
Recovered Polyester
Synthetic fiber remaining after selective cellulose conversion for potential separation, recycling and reuse.
Moving Toward Pilot Validation
FungiBio™ is advancing from laboratory and process development toward pilot-scale validation.
The proposed program will establish the engineering, biological, environmental and economic performance required for commercial scale-up.
Target Pilot Throughput: 100 - 300 tons/year
Proposed Validation Period: 12 - 18 months
Pilot objectives include fungal conversion efficiency, cotton degradation, polyester recovery, enzyme production, remediation performance, product characterization, mass balance, carbon accounting and operating economics.
Built on Applied Mycoremediation Experience
The FungiBio™ textile platform builds upon years of fungal research and environmental remediation development.
Previous treatability work using selected FungiBio™ fungal cultures demonstrated significant biological activity against complex environmental contaminants, establishing experience in fungal cultivation, strain selection, analytical testing, process optimization, and environmental applications.
That knowledge is now being extended into textile bioconversion.
Building the Circular Textile Economy Through Partnership
FungiBio™ is seeking collaboration with:
Textile manufacturers and service companies ~ Textile collectors ~ Waste management companies ~ Environmental
remediation firms ~ Research institutions ~ Government agencies ~ Strategic investors
Have a textile waste stream, environmental application, research capability or interest in pilot development?
